The Road to Austin

The marketing team at Sonicbids came to me with a fun idea leading up to the SXSW music festival in Austin. Musicians come from all over the country to attend and make a road trip out of the journey. Whether our musicians were coming from NY, LA, or Dallas, we wanted to make an interactive experience to book gigs and to keep up with others on the road.

Putting the pieces together with html/css + visual design

Using Mapbox, our front-end developer and I worked together to create an on-brand and interactive map for the traveling musicians to discover gigs. We gave venues a way to get on the map and to claim their listings. Artists were featured, their Sonicbids' EPKs were accessible, and you could see where & when they were playing.

We gained a following through Instagram by having Road to Austin takeovers by featured artists and using the hashtag #roadtoaustin in our related posts.

The visual design uses variations of our current brand colors/style, but I gave Road to Austin a slightly different feel. I wanted it to have that Texas flair with an American road trip inspired look.

Where will your road to Austin take you?

Mobile first

Since our users were primarily on the go, searching for gigs to spot along their road trip, the mobile experience needed to be seamless without losing anything from the desktop version.
